A decade of work by scientists to create an artificial pancreas that will independently control insulin levels in people with Type 1 diabetes is starting to pay off, two leading drug makers reported at this past weekend’s American Diabetes Association meeting in Chicago. Medical pumps developed by Medtronic Inc. and Johnson & Johnson.were shown in separate studies to sense changes in blood sugar levels and automatically adjust the amount of insulin they deliver. Monday, Medtronic said it will soon begin trial testing a fully automated artificial pancreas system. Bloomberg Businessweek
